Umami - a trendy term in recent years and synonymous with the hearty, spicy aroma of many foods, such as soy sauce, miso, or the powerfully intense fish sauce of Vietnam. What they all have in common is an aromatic depth that makes for an unmistakably full-bodied flavor. The dishes in the restaurant of the same name, which now has four locations, tie in with this sense of taste.
Serving Asian fusion cuisine, the selection is sumptuous and divided into two parts: A regular menu and a purely vegan menu - the dishes are often the same, just with tofu and seitan instead of meat. To start, there are light appetizers like Saigon Pancake (crispy seitan on sweet potato rub cake), followed by hearty main dishes like Pho or the Buddha Burger with grilled seitan patty and fruity mango chili dip. And after that? Desserts are dominated by light, fruity dishes - we think: The creamy chia seed coconut pudding with fruit is the perfect finish.
