New openings

A ray of hope for all coeliacs who simply can't do without Italian classics like pasta: Berlin's first gluten-free trattoria. And coffee lovers and bagel fans will also get their money's worth at the latest new openings.

LCN Coffee, a new favorite spot for coffee lovers, has opened on Grunewaldstraße. Not only does it serve fantastic coffee with beans from The Barn, but also matcha, delicious pastries and brunch. The highlight? The many cacti and succulents that give the café a special, almost meditative atmosphere. The minimalist design, combined with warm wooden elements and lots of greenery, makes the LCN the perfect place for a relaxed coffee break.

Really good bagel spots? Were rare in Berlin until now. Luckily, this new opening from Kreuzberg has come to the rescue: Bagel Bro finally offers fresh, handmade bagels that really impress - crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and still fluffy. The menu is well laid out with classic toppings such as salmon and cream cheese as well as a vegan alternative. Unfortunately, the café only has limited space inside, but has a nice outdoor area: ideal in summer or for a quick bagel to-go.

With Trattoria Senza, there is finally an Italian restaurant in Mitte that is completely gluten and lactose-free. The menu includes classics such as insalata caprese, lasagne, spaghetti carbonara and veal cutlets with rosemary potatoes. To finish, there's tiramisu or affogato with homemade pistachio and vanilla ice cream. Good to know: The prices are quite high in relation to the portions.

Recommendations of the month

In the morning - The Gretel

Are you looking for a nice café away from the hustle and bustle of Bergmannkiez? Then "das Gretel" is just the place to go. Here you can enjoy creative, elaborately prepared brunch dishes - just a few minutes' walk from Bergmannstraße and yet in a wonderfully quiet location. The interplay of dark wood tones, pastel-colored walls and vintage furniture immediately creates a warm, homely atmosphere in the corner restaurant.

But the real highlight is the food: The French toast dishes in particular, which come in both sweet and savory versions, are highly recommended. Our favorite: the version with gratinated mountain cheese, crispy mushrooms and aromatic honey mustard. Good to know: Despite its hidden location, the café is well frequented, so a reservation is recommended.

Lunch - Taco Love

Are you on the go and want a snack in between? Then we recommend a stop at Taco Love. Due to its location directly below the Eberswalder Straße underground station, the small snack bar is relatively loud and bustling, but perfect for a quick lunch or a snack to go. For those who like things a little more relaxed and quiet, we recommend taking the tacos with you and enjoying them in the nearby Mauerpark.

The selection is purely vegan-vegetarian and so aromatic and well-seasoned that even avowed meat fans will get their money's worth. Especially recommended: The taco "Al Pastor" with juicy seitan, spicy chipotle, grilled pineapple and pickled red onions.

In the evening - Knödelwirtschaft

Knödelwirtschaft

As the name suggests, everything here revolves around dumplings - in all kinds of variations. Depending on how hungry you are, you can order a plate with two, three or more dumplings, with a large portion of salad on the side. What's particularly good is that you don't have to stick to just one variation, but can combine different dumplings as the mood takes you.

The menu includes cheese dumplings, bacon dumplings and variations with thyme or mushrooms (the latter is purely vegan, by the way). A sweet version is also available: Semolina dumplings with fruit, cream and crunchy nuts. If you get hungry now, you should either book early or bring some waiting time with you, especially on weekends it can get crowded.

The range includes roasted, salted or natural nuts as well as creative nut blends. These include, for example, caramelized hazelnuts with sesame, cashews roasted with pepper and lime or spicy wasabi crackers.
